INTRODUCTION

Brighter Lighting made its spectacular debut in the French market, kicking off with a massive stadium-scale event. The production team at Class Évènement entrusted the lighting design for a project at the legendary Stade Vélodrome in Marseille to the flagship X Series solutions. At the heart of this colossal, monumental arena, an impressive rig of 64 fixtures was deployed: 40 units of the Brighter X-Beam IP and 24 units of the Brighter X-Dot Max.

For the Class Évènement team, selecting the X Series from Brighter Lighting was driven by the need for uncompromising output, optical precision, and absolute reliability under demanding open-air venue conditions. The vast stadium footprint and immense throw distances required fixtures with high luminous performance. The X Series proved its technical dominance, effortlessly mastering a scale that presents an insurmountable barrier for many standard systems.

Objectives and Operating Environment

The primary objective was to deliver a complete, highly dynamic lighting design for a large-scale stadium spectacle without encroaching on or damaging the football pitch itself. The architecture of the Stade Vélodrome—characterized by its massive volume and open-roof design—presented the technical crew with extreme working conditions. A critical design challenge was overcoming immense throw distances and competing with intense ambient light during rehearsals and the opening phases of the event. The system had to maintain full output and visibility regardless of the time of day.

THE CHALLENGE

  • Taming Massive Stadium Volume
    At a venue of this caliber, distances are measured in hundreds of meters. Traditional lighting fixtures rapidly lose focus in such a vast space, causing their luminous flux to scatter. The core challenge was sourcing fixtures that could maintain a perfectly tight, sharp beam structure, cutting distinct geometric shapes in mid-air.
  • Competing with Ambient Light
    Stadium shows follow their own rules—load-in, rehearsals, and the early stages of the event frequently take place before dusk. Ambient daylight is a lighting designer’s ultimate adversary. The system needed to deliver immense brightness to ensure the spectacle was fully impactful for both the live audience and camera lenses long before nightfall.
  • An Unforgiving Outdoor Environment
    The open-air nature of the Stade Vélodrome exposes equipment directly to volatile weather conditions, high winds, and moisture. In a high-prestige project like this, the margin for error was zero—any technical failure in front of thousands of spectators was completely out of the question. The structural design of the fixtures had to guarantee absolute, faultless stability under continuous operation.
